Station InformationAsk the Engineer
Q: Why does my TV not get Channel 9?
A: If you have a newer TV but have had it for awhile, you may not have channel 9 programmed into your TV. If you type in on your remote 09 does channel 9 come up? If it does, look for an add/delete button and press it. Also you may have to re-program your TV. This is done differently for different brands of televisions. Look for a menu or setup button, and then look for channel set up and follow the on-screen instructions. If you are having problems e-mail us or give us a call and we can help you. Q: My picture is snowy. A: This can be caused by many things both here at the station and even in your home. First determine if it’s your reception or if it may be the station. If you have an antenna, adjust it and see if it that was the problem. If you still see the problem, change the channel and see if its only KNIN or if other stations are affected. KNIN (9) and KTRV (12) are on the same transmitter tower located at Deer Point at Bogus Basin. Many times if one of us is off air, the other one is too. If this is the problem, we know about it, and the engineer is on his way to fix the problem. Q: My picture is black. A: Don’t take this the wrong way. The answer to this one most of the time is that your TV is unplugged. If it is not unplugged and other stations are okay, its safe to say that KNIN is okay too. Typically this indicates a problem at the station, and since there is some one here all the time, it should be fixed shortly. You can also check another TV in the house if you have one and see if it has the same problem. If it’s only on one of your sets, then you may have a problem with the other set. If you have set top rabbit ears, make sure you check them. Q: I have no closed captioning. A: Most shows on KNIN are closed captioned for the hearing impaired. There are many reasons that your TV may not be picking up the CC signal. The most common problem is that the show on KNIN that you are watching does not have the CC signal imbedded in its video. This would include Little House on the Prairie and Matlock. Why have you seen CC sometimes on these shows? We are currently in the process of re-mastering many of our older shows, and if we have done so, many of them now have the CC imbedded in them. If it’s a more recent program and you are still not getting CC or it gets jumbled up sometimes, try adjusting your antenna if you have one. If it’s an outdoor antenna, and it’s windy outside, that can cause it too. The CC signal is on one line of video in a 525 line picture, so there are many things that can interfere with the signal. Q: I’m seeing double images on my screen. A: Ghosting as it is called is mainly a problem with cable customers. Poor shielding on the cable that leads to your TV or a connection not properly tightened causes this. What is happening is that part of the wire in the middle of the cable is exposed picking up the off air signal just a little bit earlier or later than what is being delivered through the wire. Make sure that your cable connections are tight and not off center. Changing the cable may also work. Make sure you get a high-grade cable. RJ57 is standard and Radio Shack can help you out with this problem. If you have any other questions, please feel free to e-mail us at KNIN. |
